The spring 2012 started out brilliantly with a Trumpeter Finch, a new species for Gotska Sandön, in the afternoon of 17 May at Båthuset. The bird was seen well but briefly and it was hard to rediscover. 19 May 2012 00:10
Two Ornithological societies will 2012 arrange birding trips to Gotska Sandön in the end of May, which is the most interesting period of the year for those interested in birds.
- StOF (The Ornithological Society of Stockholm) will arrange ”Exkursion to Gotska Sandön” 25-27 May where Raul Vicente will lead bird-focused excursions in the mornings. Read more at www.stof.nu (in Swedish)
- Club300 does the ”eXpedition Gotska Sandön 2012” 27 May-3 June when hardcore birdwatching will be performed around the clock to find rarities. Read more at www.club300.se (in Swedish)
A Red Phalarope was found at Bredsandsudde in the end of August 2011 by Fredrik Ström. This constitutes a new record for Gotska Sandön.
